Why the Pella Impervia Casement Window is a Top Choice for DFW Homes

North Texas homeowners seeking to modernize their exteriors and optimize indoor comfort often look to install energy efficient replacement windows. A very popular change has been to convert operable windows to fixed, picture windows, to maximize the amount of glass and light while minimizing the intrusiveness of the window frame.

However, homeowners may not realize just how incredible casement windows are. They offer all the benefits of a picture window having even more airflow than a single or double-hung window because the window opens all the way out.

Within casement windows there is one that stands out among all the rest, the Pella Impervia Casement.

1. Fiberglass Strength = Unique Design

Pella's fiberglass is one of the strongest window materials on the market. This allows Pella to create an exceptionally thin sash (the operable portion) of the window. In this post's picture you can see how the sash "nests" into the frame with minimal thickness.

Most casement windows slide toward the middle as they rotate outward in order to shift the weight to the middle of the frame. Since Pella's Impervia fiberglass is so strong, the hinge can be safely put on the side of the window, allowing a very expansive, modern, opening.

2. Next-Generation Functionality: Easy-Slide Hardware

Opening most casement windows is a pain because their hand cranks are cumbersome to turn, wear down over time, and obstruct blinds and shades. The Pella Easy Slide Operator is revolutionary in that it allows one finger operation of the window, no cranking involved.

3. Energy Efficiency and Longevity

The argon fill and glass coating applied to our Pella Impervia Casements is top-of-the-line for fending off blazing DFW summer heat. Since fiberglass and the glass panes are made of the same material, they expand and contract at the same rate. This reduces stress and helps the window seals to last longer than standard windows.

FAQ

Are Pella Impervia casements safe in bedrooms?

Yes, the Pella Impervia casement is safe for use in bedrooms. For standard single-hung windows, a Window Opening Control Device (WOCD) is used in 2nd story bedrooms to prevent accidental falls. Pella implements something similar by using an extra hidden bracket that limits the casement to 4 inches of opening. This bracket is removable by the homeowner if they want the window to fully open, but it must be done intentionally.

Can I use normal picture windows next to a casement?

While you can use a normal picture window next to a casement, they will be noticeably different in size. This doesn't bother some homeowners, but as window experts we always recommend installing a "fixed casement" instead of a picture window when it is next to a casement. The fixed casement has the same profile as the casement, but it doesn't open, the price is slightly higher than a picture window, but significantly less than an operable casement.

Where does the screen go on a casement window?

On casement windows, the screen goes on the inside (on the room side) to prevent bugs and other small debris from blowing into the house when the casement is opened. Pella has a patented screen technology, called InView, that is highly transparent, allowing in 14% more light than standard fiberglass screens.

Are grilles available on the Pella Impervia casement window?

Yes, many styles of grilles (or grids) are available to match whichever style you prefer!

What colors does Pella offer on the Impervia casement?

The Pella Impervia casement is 9 colors:

  • 5 solid colors (the same color inside and outside): Black, brown, white, gray, and tan.
  • 4 dual-colors: White interior with black, brown, gray, or tan exterior.

Are screw holes visible when the window is installed?

Our Pella Impervia windows install seamlessly, the screws go behind the inner trim and are completely hidden giving a seamless, modern, clean aesthetic.
